ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) — Albemarle County residents may see some people around their homes because the county is conducting an assessment of real estate.

According to a release, this is working to increase the quality of real estate data for residential properties in order to improve the accuracy of assessments.

Such inspections are a normal part of the assessment process, and they usually occur on about 20 percent of properties in the county each year.

This means county staff members will be visiting more than 8,000 properties.

The release says on site inspections are needed to ensure that property information on file with the county is accurate and up to date.

The inspections will involve the exterior of any buildings on the property.

Inspectors, who will have county ID tags and be driving vehicles with the Albemarle County seal, will be knocking on doors to let residents know they are there.

In some cases, they may ask specific questions about the basement finish or other details if needed.

Should a resident not answer the door, the inspector will review the exterior of the home only.

Anyone who sees activity around their home that appears suspicious is encouraged to contact the Albemarle County Police Department.
