Closing the Language Barrier for Spanish-Speaking Realtors

Diversity

Language barrier has been a long-standing challenge in the real estate market, especially with the Spanish-speaking community’s growing diversity. Communication plays a significant role in the smooth running of all business operations, including in the real estate market. This calls for the need to cross the language barrier through all means possible. Regarding this, the National Association of Realtors (NAR) in mid-October launched a Spanish version of its website (NAR en Español) to enhance communication with Spanish-speaking agents and homeowners.

NAR in Spanish or NAR en Español, is an initiative created for all members and collaborating partners of the association with an interest in being able to access information, tools, products, and services in the Spanish language. The platform is also an excellent meeting point for members from both the United States and global markets who aim to build relationships and be part of an active and growing Spanish-speaking realtor community.

The sub-site resulted from the association’s Spanish-language Facebook page into the “comprehensive collection of resources” NAR now offers its Spanish-speaking members, NAR representative says.

“The vision that NAR’s Engagement team has shown throughout the development of NAR en Español has been transformative for both our association and our industry,” said Katie Johnson, general counsel, and chief member experience officer at NAR. “I’m so proud to see this association enhance the support we provide to this important and ever-growing segment of real estate professionals.”

Spanish-speaking membership has been increasingly surging in the association to the point NAR started initiating networking and educational resources for Spanish-speaking Realtors in 2018. The association said that it had increased its effort to make local and international Spanish-speaking Realtors access its Right Tools, Right Now program, which is its resource-focused response to COVID-19.

The Power Is Now Spanish.

NAR is not the only one in the quest to break the challenge of the language barrier and bring everyone aboard. Beginning November 2020, The Power Is Now, or El Poder Es Ahora, will have two Hispanic online TV shows, namely, Hispanic Homebuyer Townhall and Hispanic Real Estate Roundtable. The two shows will be hosted by a VIP Agent and the owner/broker of Florida Dreams Realty Group, Adrian Montes, MBA. The Hispanic Homebuyer Townhall show will be taking place every second and fourth Tuesday every month, while the Hispanic Real Estate Roundtable will be live every second and fourth Friday every month.

As seen in the case of NAR and The Power Is Now, such moves are excellent efforts to promote inclusivity and eliminate the language barrier in the real estate markets. Such decisions should be emulated by everyone else in the real estate market for a smooth-running of operations and to appreciate our diversity.
